10 Years of Chili

The beginning of fall not only means it’s time for pumpkin spice lattes, sweaters, pumpkin patches, and football… but it also means it’s time for the Annual Roers / Keller Williams Chili Feed! What is better on a crisp autumn day than a hot bowl of chili for a good cause? We’ll help you out – nothing!

Every fall for the past 10 years, the Roers team and the Keller Williams Inspire Realty team has joined forces to host the Chili Feed with all proceeds benefiting the United Way of Cass-Clay. That’s right… 10 whole years. What a milestone!

Celebrating 10 Years

To celebrate 10 years of the Chili Feed… we decided to make this year’s event bigger and better than ever. We increased our sponsorship levels, introduced a Match Sponsor, Taracon Precast, who matched every dollar donated on the day of the event up to $5,000, and for the first time ever had raffle board prizes donated by SCHEELS. We also welcomed back our Presenting Sponsor, Bremer Bank, but with an added bonus of a Fargo INC article and our event on featured billboards around town!

We also set a goal to raise $50,000 total and surpassed it by a landslide. Thanks to our sponsors and every person who attended, we were able to raise over $69,000 for the United Way of Cass-Clay. Bringing our grand total of money raised from the Chili Feed over the past 10 years to more than $284,000. All because of our amazing community!

50 Chili Chefs

Of course the Chili Feed is about raising money for a wonderful cause, but it’s called a CHILI feed for a reason! When you show up, you are greeted by over 50 chili chefs ready to serve you their chili.

Thank you to all 50 Chili Chefs who took the time to cook their chili and serve it during the event! What’s fun about serving chili is the little competition that goes on… we run a VIP Judge contest where our VIP Judges vote on their favorite chili, as well as a People’s Choice contest. Every attendee receives a chili bean when they arrive and are get to place that bean in the jar of their favorite chili.

The chilies that win the two contests receive an amazing prize package stuffed with items donated from companies and businesses within the community.

Thank you to these businesses for their generous donations to our prize baskets:

Buffalo Wild Wings, Dakota Design Company, Fargo Force, FloatSix, Gigi’s Cupcakes, Gunderson’s Jewelers, Junkyard Brewing Company, Keller Williams Inspire Realty, Midwest Radio FM, North Star Plumbing, Royal Jewelers, Sandy’s Donuts, Suntana, Uncle Maddio’s Pizza, Vive Salon, Westside Wellness, LLC, Window Tint Pros & Automotive Accessories, & Zorbaz

We’re already almost a month in to 2019 and the Roers team is so excited about our upcoming plans and projects! However, we wanted to take a look back at everything that Roers did this past year. We are very proud of our entire team. No matter the role, just about everyone has had a part in these and we could not be happier with each and every turnout.

Here’s to what we accomplished in 2018 and what we can’t wait to accomplish in 2019. *glasses clink*

These are just a group of the 2018 Projects that Roers was a part of. We look forward to partnering with more businesses, organizations, and professionals around the community in 2019. If you are interested in our past projects, or would like to contact us, head to roers.com/contact/.

U32 Phase II

118 New Units

Our U32 apartments were such a hit, the second phase started construction this spring and the progress is really moving along. Set to open fall 2019, the building is currently being constructed on the east side of the current building with 118 new units. The new building will feature all the same amenities as the first building, even offering more fitness area, hot yoga studio, community/game room and much more.

The Big Lease Up

To kick off leasing, the Roers Property Management team is having a Big Lease Up event on Thursday, January 17th starting at 6PM. It will be held at U32 Phase I and is first come, first serve so if you’re interested in renting at U32 Phase II, you don’t want to miss this.

If you are planning to attend the Big Lease Up event, here is everything you must bring in order for your application to be processed:

Roers sold U32 in October 2021.

Breakfast with Santa 2018

Roers had its’ 2nd Annual Breakfast with Santa this year. We created this event to try and include our employees and their families. We have the Annual Christmas Party every year, so we decided to hold this event the day after so our out-of-town staff and guests are able to attend!

Santa

It’s called Breakfast with Santa… so what would the event be without Santa?? The kids absolutely loved him.

Activity Stations

Along with getting to chat with Santa, we also had some games, activities, treats, and more! Guests were able to go through the office and play Christmas BINGO, create an ornament craft, decorate cookies, and write letters to Santa.

Volunteers

We had some amazing volunteers help us out with this event! We reached out to the Sheyenne High School’s National Honor Society for some volunteers, and they were great! We want to thank them for being so helpful & polite.

Overall, the event was a success! It’s so nice getting to not only connect and catch up with all of our employees, but their families & loved ones as well.

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!

Roers Christmas Party 2018

Tis the season! Roers had its 42nd Annual Christmas Party and it was a night filled with good company, good conversation, music, and jerseys!

Our past parties have been rather formal themed as far as a dress code. Last year we decided to do an ugly sweater theme and it was a big hit! A lot of people liked the casual dress code with less pressure to dress up. So we stuck with that for 2018. We still wanted to make it fun, so we chose the theme of jerseys/team spirit! We even had a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winner for Most Team Spirit.

Social Hour

The party began with a social hour. This was a great time for everyone to catch up with employees they might not get to see or work with every day.

Awards

Dinner began and shortly after we started the employee recognition & awards. We recognized our employees who have been here for 5, 10, 15, 35, and 40 years! We also presented the Rookie of the Year Award, Building Success in the Office Award, Building Success in the Field Award, and the Community Service Award. It’s awesome to get to highlight our amazing employees and the hard work they do for Roers.

Jerseys vs. Trophies

This game is also something we’ve done in the past. To say it’s a hit is an understatement! Everyone loves it. Each guest gets a paddle. Jim flips a coin, everyone guesses what they think it’s going to land on. If you’re wrong you sit down. And we keep going until there’s one person standing! We did three games of it this year with prizes of a Great Wolf Lodge gift certificate, a Roomba, and an Apple Watch for the winners! Such a fun game.

Pie in the Face

Something else we did during the party was a little fundraiser for the United Way of Cass Clay. Our United Way committee collected money for a chance to pie Danielle or Scott, two of our leaders, in the face. Things got really messy really fast. But it was for a good cause, so it was worth it… right Danielle?

Dueling Pianos

This year’s entertainment was Dueling Pianos who put on a great show! A lot of us got up to dance… not something we get to do with our coworkers every day!

Most Team Spirit

Last but not least… we awarded our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners of the Most Team Spirit with Scheels gift cards!

1st place was Lisa S. on the Dickinson Team! She was head to toe in Eagles gear.

2nd place was Matt N. on the Development Team and his wife Christine! They dressed up as “jersey cows”.

3rd place was Tyrone K. on the Construction Team. He was a referee!

Overall, the night was a success. We’re already planning for next year! Wishing you all a Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays from everyone at Roers!

Pies Pies Pies

The Roers team was feeling grateful, thankful, and blessed this Holiday season! And we wanted to spread it around our community. We delivered over 500 pies total between Fargo, Dickinson, and Bismarck during the week of Thanksgiving. That’s a lot of pies!

Give a Pie, Get a Pie

For the past few years, Roers Property Management has been partnering with Starion Bank and Village Inn to do “Give a Pie, Get a Pie” at our Metropolitan Apartments in Fargo. This year, we decided to do it at our SGC Apartments as well! Residents are able to fill out a form and choose what flavor of pie they would like to have for themselves and they are also able to choose a flavor of pie they would like to give to someone else for the Holidays. Once we get the forms in, we deliver the pies! The best part is, Dale from Starion helped us deliver!

Pies for our clients, partners, & vendors

Roers has always done a Christmas gift to the people we work close with throughout the year. However, we had the idea to switch things up this year and do a Thanksgiving gift instead. And what’s a better gift during Thanksgiving than a pie?! So we put in a very large order of pies at Costco, order some Roers cutting boards, and wrapped them together to make a cute little Thanksgiving gift of pie!

The Roers leadership team all came together and delivered pies all around our community. We even had deliveries in Dickinson and Bismarck! To say we love pie is an understatement….

Employee Pie Party

Not only did we want to express how thankful we were for our clients, vendors, & partners… we also wanted to show our employees how thankful we are for them and all the hard work they do for Roers!

We invited all of our employees to the Fargo Office to enjoy some apple cider, some fresh pumpkin pie, and to take a pie home to enjoy with their friends and family over Thanksgiving! It was an afternoon filled with great people, great conversation, and really great pie.

Thanks to everyone who helped with these fun events and thanks to everyone who works with Roers and made this event possible! We are so thankful, so grateful, and so blessed. We are wishing you all a very Happy Holidays!

MacKenzie River Pizza

Roers Construction Company is pleased to announce the successful completion of the construction of the communities’ newest restaurant, MacKenzie River Pizza. MacKenzie River Pizza is set to open its doors to the public at 11 am on Monday, December 10, 2018, at 819 24th Avenue East in West Fargo.  65 community members have been hired to join the MacKenzie River Pizza team to provide an unparalleled family dining experience.

The 7,400 square foot restaurant introduces the inviting ‘industrial meets rustic’ atmosphere with the subtle element mix of rock, barnwood, metals and warm lighting making it an ideal location for a family gathering, a date night or for a team meal after the big game. Roers began construction on the restaurant on May, 23, 2018. Visitors can enjoy the unique attributes to the restaurant including a frost rail keeping your beverage cold on the bar, stained concrete bar top and local-inspired Bison accents throughout the bar. This is the fourth location for owner, Lance Robinson. “Our focus is to provide a casual family-atmosphere for all ages,” commented Robinson. “Our food and service won’t be hit or miss. You can expect both to be consistent every visit.” The atmosphere is welcoming, but visitors will enjoy the menu even more. From gourmet specialty pizzas, sandwiches on fresh baked bread, to desserts worth all the calories, MacKenzie River Pizza’s menu is decked out for dine-in and take-out orders.

MacKenzie River Pizza takes pride is giving back to the communities through volunteering and financial support. Company-wide nearly $83,000 has been donated to local organizations. The restaurant also participates in the Round It Up America® program which provides support to the No Kid Hungry and ProStart charities. When closing out your credit card bill, simply round up to the nearest dollar and the money is given to these deserving charities. “Roers was excited about the opportunity to partner with MacKenzie River Pizza for the construction of the restaurant as was as the opportunity for the community to gain another company which is extremely community-focused. Our core values align, along with our high standards for quality and customer service. We look forward to the addition of MacKenzie River Pizza in our growing community,” commented Jim Roers, Roers Chief Executive Officer. Details on the giving back programs, menu and more, can be found www.mackenzieriverpizza.com.

Roers Halloween Party

One of the best parts of the Fall is Halloween! Getting dressed up in costumes, eating a little too much candy, the spooky decorations, and more. For the first time ever, Roers decided to throw a Halloween Party for our employees & their families.

We had an afternoon of Halloween games & crafts, cookie decorating, a photo booth, trick-or-treating through the Fargo Roers Office, and everyone was dressed up, of course! It was so great to get to see everyone’s families there and dressed up in their costumes.

Thanks to everyone who helped out with this event and everyone who came! We can’t wait for next year!

Check out the photos from the event:

Roers VIP Fan of the Game

This Fall Roers launched something pretty exciting! We partnered up with NDSU and created the Roers VIP Fan of the Game.

Each home Bison football game, anyone in the community has the opportunity to be the Roers VIP Fan of the Game. This means they win 2 home game tickets, 2 pregame sideline passes, and their photo taken by the big football helmet and posted on NDSU’s social media!

It has been such a fun season getting to connect with so many people throughout the community as we choose a different winner every home game. It has also been a blast getting to work with NDSU Athletics. They have been awesome.

Here are the winners we’ve had so far:

If YOU want to be the Roers VIP Fan of the Game, you still have two more chances this football season!

The Essentials For Your First College Apartment

It’s back to school time! Which probably means moving into your apartment. If you’re moving out of your dorm and into your very first college apartment – that can be a pretty big transition! No more walking down the hall to get your meal served to you. No more climbing up to the top bunk every night. No more sharing a bathroom with 50 other people!

Your first apartment will more than likely be a breath of fresh air compared to life in the dorms. And we are here to help you with your move! We have compiled a list of everything you will need to make your new place feel like home.

For the Bedroom:

Your bedroom is going to be your… escape. This will be the one place you can shut the door from your roommates and be by yourself. It’s where you will spend a lot of time and it’s the only place that’s only yours.. so make it special! Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Bed Frame + Mattress
  • Mattress Pad
  • Bedding
  • Desk + Chair
  • Nightstand
  • Lamp
  • Decor
    • Rug
    • Plants
    • String Lights
    • Photos
    • Art
  • Hangers
  • Dresser
  • Power Strips & Extension Cords
  • Fan – just in case there’s not central air and you like to sleep in the cold
  • 3M Wall Hooks & Hangers – a lot of apartments charge you per nail hole so adhesive hooks are always a good idea

For the Kitchen:

Depending on how many roommates you will be living with, it’s a good idea to decide who is going to get what items for the kitchen. Here is a list to start with:

  • Table + Chairs
  • Plates, Cups, Mugs, Bowls, etc.
  • Silverware & Utensils
  • Pots & Pans
  • Trash Can
  • Garbage Bags
  • Coffee Machine – duh
  • Microwave – some apartments come with them, so make sure yours doesn’t before someone buys one!
  • Toaster
  • Dish Soap & Scrubber – the dishwasher isn’t superman… clean the dishes before you put them in the dishwasher, guys!
  • Dishwasher pods
  • Hand Towels & Wash Cloths
  • Groceries! – that’s a given

For the Bathroom:

You might have one bathroom that you split between all of your roommates.. or you might get your own! Make sure to plan accordingly. But either way, here’s how to stock it up:

  • Bath Towels – we recommend getting around 4-6 for yourself so you can rotate while you’re washing the others
  • Hand Towels & Wash Cloths
  • Shower Curtain & Liner – don’t forget the liner!! You don’t want to ruin the curtain.
  • Bath Rug
  • Plunger & Toilet Brush
  • Mini Trash Can
  • Toiletries
    • Shampoo & Conditioner
    • Toothbrush & Toothpaste
    • Toothbrush holder
    • Soap (both body & hand)
    • Toilet paper
    • Shaving Products

For the Living Room:

This is where you’re going to live! (In the living room… get it?) Make sure this space is accommodating to not only you and your roommates… but your guests! This is where you’ll have your movie nights, watch the big game, catch up, and just hang out! Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Sofa & Additional Seating
  • Coffee & End Tables
  • Lamps
  • TV
  • TV Stand
  • Blankets & Pillows
  • Decor – make it feel homey!
    • Plants
    • Wall Decor/Art
    • Rug
    • Photos

Cleaning Supplies:

Whether you like it or not… your place is going to get dirty. And you’re going to need to clean it. Here’s a list of everything you will need at some point:

  • Broom & Dustpan
  • Vacuum
  • Mop or Swiffer
  • Paper Towels
  • Disinfectant Wipes – a true lifesaver
  • Carpet Cleaner
  • Bathroom Cleaner
  • Window Cleaner
  • Multi-Purpose Spray
  • Dusting Spray
  • Microfiber Cloths

If you are living with roommates, make sure to talk it over with them before buying anything. You want to make sure you have everything, but you also want to make sure you don’t all buy the same things! Hopefully this list helped you in your big move to your college apartment! Good luck and have fun in your new space!
